The intersection of civic technologies and African urban challenges

Building on our previous conversations and engagement at Urban Fest in 2020 and #DIYAFRICA in 2021, the Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) proposes to host a panel discussion supplemented by content from the previous conferences. The session aims to highlight the intersection of civic technologies and African urban challenges as well as offer/highlight examples how civic tech can be leveraged even more effectively around Africa’s urbanisation challenges and opportunities.

Dans le prolongement de nos conversations et engagements précédents lors d’Urban Fest en 2020 et de #DIYAFRICA en 2021, le Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) propose d’organiser une table ronde enrichie du contenu des conférences précédentes. La session vise à mettre en évidence l’intersection des technologies civiques et des défis urbains africains, ainsi qu’à offrir/souligner des exemples de la façon dont les technologies civiques peuvent être exploitées encore plus efficacement autour des défis et des opportunités d’urbanisation de l’Afrique.

Session Summary

In order to address the convergence between civic technologies and African urban difficulties, as well as to provide/highlight instances of how civic technology may be used more effectively to address Africa’s urbanization challenges and potential, it is vital to build local skills that will create the required digital information while providing learning and livelihood opportunities. in addition, To build resilient cities, local communities must have access to accurate, up-to-date data, to build resilient cities, local communities must have access to accurate, up-to-date data.A bottom-up strategy to data collecting, including accessible disruptive technologies for digital, open, and other solutions, is required for sustainability and scale. Overall, it is important to take a responsible, inclusive approach that will address locally articulated needs , pool expertise and resources. This approach will also protect the vulnerable and ensure shared benefits, and promote local capacity building and skills development.
