About ICLEI Africa

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of more than 1,750 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development.

Active in 100+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

ICLEI Africa serves our African members, working with cities and regions in more than 25 countries across the continent. We offer a variety of urban sustainability solutions through our dynamic and passionate team of skilled professionals.

Over the past 20 years, ICLEI Africa has established a reputation for its climate change and nature-based solutions work, and for the long term relationships formed with our members across the continent. In 2018, we launched a third work stream focusing on urban systems, and within this we are rapidly building a portfolio of work addressing issues of infrastructure, green buildings, management of resources and wastes, mobility, future cities, public procurement, finance and governance.

RISE Africa is part of ICLEI Africa’s strategy to broaden the range of stakeholders addressing the challenges of sustainable African cities beyond local governments to include civil society and the private sector. By inviting city leaders and technical staff to interact with the continent’s brightest minds and those organisations with resources to facilitate large scale change, our aim is for RISE Africa to spark new initiatives and build a community of actors committed to positive and sustainable change in the continent’s cities.
