Session Summary

This session has been heavily influenced by the We Are All Africans (WAAA) podcast series which explores conversations about identity and experience with people who live in Africa. Personal identities are entrenched in places and this is certainly true for Africa.

The host, Saran Koly, who is the founder of WAAA, opened the session with a poll asking:

1) Is Africa a place or a feeling and why?

2) Which episode of the WAAA podcast did you most enjoy?

The session used a fishbowl format to engage the speakers by asking them an initial question and then allowing the conversations to flow. All of the speakers provided a glimpse into their lives. All had a different story to tell but all of their stories were rooted in their experience of their African identity as well as their geographical ties to the African continent. The session closed with reflections on the powerful role of African cities and the capabilities of residents on the African continent.
